Money Rate Desk is a small independent publication about savings and everyday banking for US readers. We are not a bank, lender or financial adviser.

How we research

We are upfront about this: we have not bench-tested the products on this site. Our guides rest on three things.

• Manufacturer spec sheets. Rates and terms come only from each issuer's own page, with the date the issuer shows. Rates change, so always check the issuer before you open an account. Each product card links to that page and shows the date we checked it.
• Arithmetic you can check. When we show interest math, we give the formula and every assumption.
• Public safety guidance. Deposit insurance and consumer guidance come from the FDIC, CFPB and Federal Reserve, linked where we use them. Nothing here is financial advice.

When a maker's own figure sounds optimistic, we label it as the maker's figure.
